WE BELIEVE
The Conservative Party was created to right the course of a politic that has been drifting for 80 years. The liberal and progressive culture that we encounter today began during the turn of the last century when radical political thinking in Europe spilled over to this country. The Progressive Movement began the slide, but it was the Great Depression that caused the political vacuum into which the liberals and progressive/socialists entered and nudged the drift to the political developments of today.
The Conservative Party has no desire to rehabilitate the Republican Party, or any other existing political party for that matter. Our mission is to “right the course,” to re-establish the limits and boundaries of Government as framed by the Founding Fathers of the United States of America.
Consequently, all planks and positions set forth by the Conservative Party are tested against those enumerated powers given up by the states to federate the United States of America.
The Tenth Amendment to the Constitution directs that ÒThe powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.Ó That is the federalist approach to government that we favor.
Therefore, only those enumerated powers delegated to the United States can be appropriate planks for the national platform of the Conservative Party. All other planks are reserved to the respective State Conservative Party platforms..
The Conservative Party will only advance national planks to its national platform that are germane to those 10th Amendment enumerated powers, and have been initiated by a State and forwarded to the national Conservative Party for consideration by the Conservative Party in national convention.
The Conservative Party is a new political party and, persuant to its bylaws, will hold a national convention to resolve major organizational issues, one of which is the passage by the affiliated States of the national Conservative Party platform. This document is a first step in delineating the principles and platform upon which this Party stands.
A political platform is the structure designed to set out the fundamental principles upon which a political party or its endorsed candidate stands. The metaphor of a platform, such as a stage, continues with the inclusion of “planks” that have been “nailed” together to form the platform surface.
A political Plank thus seeks to represent the unified voice about a public issue that exists among people who have differences of opinion about it. As long as these differences, when reduced to written form, are decided by popular vote, it can be reasonably assumed that the plank will favorably prevail in the voting booth.
The current reality of platform writing for the major existing political parties has been a top-down process, something not decided by popular vote. The public is told that the party platform planks presented by its national platform committee are the result of exhaustive surveys and reflect the mood of the general public. However, has there been great discontent by the public lately because these platform planks have produced little other than increased, massive government and a social order that is contrary to that which created this country and sustained it for over 200 years. That disconnect between the major party’s platforms platform and the desires of individual Americans is amply demonstrated by their protest which has grown into formal protest groups some of which have been coined the name; Tea Party.
The Conservative Party calls the platform tradition of those political parties that use the top-down approach, a “captive” platform. The top-down platform is held captive by a candidate to serve his/her purposes to get elected, or to stay in office. The top-down platform is held captive by one, or many, special interest groups, from whose financial support candidates thirst. This may be common, but it is not the right approach for America.
